Granite Pantheon

High in a secret location in a mountainous region of the Mojave Desert is a sanctuary where the Tribe of Mojave once reigned. Although these ancient people have been lost in time, their Pantheon of Gods remain, solid as granite, assuring that the memory of the Mojave people will never die.
I pause for a moment of respect and reflection.

Uplifted

Formed deep below the surface, the uplifted and eroded granite formations of the New York Mountains of Mojave National Preserve rise high above the desert wilderness.

Rocky

Rising high above the arid plateaus of Mojave National Preserve are the New York Mountains, a towering, rugged granite massif. A primitive 4-wheel drive track leads up Caruthers Canyon to the 6,000ft/1830m level overlooked by 7,500ft/2285m rocky peaks where makeshift campsites can be created. Being in this empty wilderness is like stepping back into a time before people walked upon this landscape.
This cropped photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera and Super-Takumar/6X7 1:2.4/105mm lens with a Zenza Bronica 67mm SO56•2C(YA3) filter using Ilford Delta 400 Pro film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.
Madcap Wall

A structure should reflect the personality and disposition of it's builder. The wall now being constructed along the southern border of the United States demonstrates certain qualities and traits which show the temperament and ethos of the leader who has ordered the structure to be built. I certainly hope that the design shown here will demonstrate to the nation and to the world the spirit and essence of our duly elected president.

Vertebrate of Mojave

Arching high above the vast high desert plains below, the spine of Mojave National Preserve soars skyward.

Homeric Odyssey

My recent journey and extraordinary adventures within the rugged landscapes of Mojave National Preserve inspired visions of the great ancient poet, Homer.

Where Dolphins Frolic

The highlands of the New York Mountains of Mojave National Preserve are the only known habitat of terrestrial cetaceans, including the elusive mojave rock dolphin. Over the past few years I have returned to this secret remote area in my study of of these unique creatures. Like their marine cousins, mojave rock dolphins are very intelligent and playful. Skeptical cetologists have branded me as a quack and charlatan seeking attention, so I have taken photographs to back up my research and ongoing studies.

Splendour in the Grass

Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower,
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind . . .

Beyond The Swirling Clouds

We could climbup to the mountaintop.
We could fly on the wings of an eagle.
But we can't get any higher than this.
