Ansel Adams earned a modest living as a stage performer in the Ahwahnee Hotel in the late 1920s before he became famous for his photography. Ansel was a man of many talents although I am grateful that he found his true calling - photography. His photos of the natural beauty of the West served to garner public support for the preservation of such areas within the National Parks system. This photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera and SMC PENTAX 67 1:4 45mm lens and 82mm Tiffen UV filter using Fuji 400-H film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

Ansel Adams earned a modest living as a stage performer in the Ahwahnee Hotel in the late 1920s before he became famous for his photography. Just imagine what it was like to live in Yosemite Valley, waking up each morning surrounded by spectacular granite cliffs. Unobstructed

Fortunately, the minimalist fence does not block the spectacular view. It also does not provide much security for absent minded photographers focusing their cameras, who may tumble the 1,000 meters to Yosemite Valley below. The Grim Reaper (Half Dome) sees all. This photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera with a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar/6X7 1:3.5/55mm lens using Kodak Ektar 100 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

John Muir took a camping trip in 1903 with President Theodore Roosevelt in Yosemite National Park, a preserve that Muir had lobbied congress to create in 1890. On that trip he convinced the president to take control of Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove away from California and return it to the federal government. In 1906, Roosevelt signed a bill that did precisely that. This photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera and SMC PENTAX 67 1:4 45mm lens with a Hoya HMC 82mm O[G] filter using Kodak TX400 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

Half Dome

Although this geologic formation in Yosemite National Park is commonly referred to as Half Dome, I have my doubts. It certainly looks like an alien sculpture of the Grim Reaper (without the scythe). A conspiracy theory is brewing!! This photo was taken by a Minolta Autocord LMX Chiyoko TLR and Seikosha-MX Rokkor 75mm f/3.2 & 3.5 lens using a 49mm Hoya R72 Infrared filter attached to a 30mm to 49mm bayonet TLR adapter using Rollei IR 400 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitalized by Photoshop.

Dream-Flying

Have you ever had a dream that you were flying? Soaring effortlessly high above the earth. Looking down at the beautiful mountains below. A dream in a special kind of black and white surreal vision that simply glows . . .
