Lake Toba Sumatra Indonesia

Lake Toba is a relatively difficult overland journey but worth the hardship. It is an equatorial volcanic highland crater lake with an enormous central island, Samosir. The tropical climate is moderated by the altitude and the terrain is rugged and beautiful. This ideal location was a significant stop on the route taken by adventurous overland trekkers as they made their way towards Thailand and India with Europe as the ultimate destination (or in reverse to Australia). The beauty and tranquility of this location warranted at least a week or ten days for rest and rejuvenation before continuing on the trail. This image was taken with a Yashica ELECTRO 35CC. The negative was scanned with an HP Scanjet G4050 and restored with multiple Photoshop operations.

Toba Samosir Island Field

Orderly and well tended rice paddies fill the valley beneath the towering cliffs of Lake Toba's central island, Samosir. Abundant rain feeds waterfalls cascading from the cliffs above and is channeled into the paddies. This image was taken with a Yashica ELECTRO 35CC. The negative was scanned with an HP Scanjet G4050 and restored with multiple Photoshop operations.
