Yes children, let me tell you about the old days as we cross over the Golden Gate Bridge enroute our field trip in San Francisco. You know, this bridge was not always here, believe it or not! If we were taking a trip to San Francisco before 1937 we would go to the Sausalito Ferry Terminal and drive our car onto a steam ferryboat like the Eureka. Then we would sail over to the San Francisco Ferry Terminal. Children, back then your great grandparents, would look forward to such an adventure. Yes . . . your great grandparents were children also at one time . . .

Cangrejosaurus Attacks

Minding my own business while strolling by Pier 39, I witnessed a terrifying scene. A mutant crab was on a rampage preparing to devour an innocent couple who were unaware of the imminent danger. Before shouting out a warning I took this photo. As we fled, I saw the beast attacking a passing streetcar and causing panic before it scuttled away and slipped back into the murky waters of San Francisco Bay. To keep the wider public from hysteria, news of this incident has been suppressed.
I enjoy crab as much as anyone else, but I am not accustomed to being on their menu! Let it be known that danger lurks in the nearby waters.
Perhaps the effects of Fukushima radiation have finally come to fruition?

Can you make it over the hill, little car?
I think I can.
It is a very steep track.
I think I can, I think I can . . .

USS Pampanito (SS-383/AGSS-383), a Balao-class submarine, was a United States Navy ship, the only one named for the pompano fish. She completed six war patrols from 1944 to 1945 and served as a Naval Reserve Training ship from 1960 to 1971. She is now a National Historic Landmark, preserved as a memorial and museum ship in the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association located at Fisherman's Wharf. (source: Wikipedia)

SS Jeremiah O'Brien
One of only two currently operational World War II Liberty ships afloat of the 2,710 built during the war.
I post this photo in tribute to my late father, Lt. Lee Holcomb, who served on the Liberty Ship, USN Oconto, in the Pacific WWII theater, seeing combat action in Luzon, Philippines and Okinawa.

(Somewhat ironic that this photo came from a Japanese medium format camera)
