Tsé Bitʼaʼí

The Navajos call this sacred rock, Tsé Bitʼaʼí, which means, Winged Rock. On maps it is identified as, Shiprock. Whatever you may call this 30 million year-old volcanic plug soaring into the sky, it is a special place - an icon of the Navajo Nation and of the Four Corners Region of New Mexico.

As the late afternoon sun touched the horizon at dusk I came upon Chimney Rock near the tiny settlement of Towaoc on the edge of the Navajo Nation. With only seconds of light left before twilight commenced I quickly propped the camera on a fence post and took my last photo of the day.
