‘Paleis Het Loo’ (Palace Het Loo) in winter.

In 1464 Jacobus Wilthingh donated his rural estate ‘Apell’ to the Order of the Holy Cross. The construction of the monastery took almost hundred years (1465 - 1561). After the reformation in the Netherlands the latest prior of the monastery of the Holy Cross Brothers became in 1594 the first Protestant clergyman. After the year of 1600 the monastery underwent many changes and some parts were demolished, but a large part of the original buildings remained. Between 1930 and 1933 the remaining parts were preserved and restored by the city of Groningen. Since 1992 it is one of ‘the top 100 Unesco monumental buildings’ in the Netherlands. It houses nowadays a museum of religious art and the history of the monastery. Monastery Ter Apel or as it is called officially: Monastery Domus Novae Lucis (Home of the New Light) has a beautiful setting in the woodlands around the village of Ter Apel. .

The 'Martinitoren' is with its height of 97 metres the most well known and remarkable landmark of the city of Groningen. Originally the church (Martinikerk) had an indoor tower, but after it collapsed a new tower was built (between 1470 and 1550) west of the main church. The inhabitants of Groningen call it ‘d'Olle Grieze’ (Old Grey One) after the colour of the bricks. The 'Martinikerk' got its name from Sint Martinus or Sint Maarten (Saint Martin) and still some murals of him as well as others can be seen in the choir of the church. These beautiful paintings are dating back to the year of 1545. The ceiling has a warm blue colour. The nave of the church is really impressive and has one of the biggest baroque organs in northern Europe. The construction of this organ started already in 1480 and was finished in the 19th century.

'D'n Olliemeulen' - watermill along the stream the 'Vloet' in Oploo, province of Noord-Brabant. The mill is dating back to the year of 1725; nowadays this former oil mill is used as a flour mill. Locals call the mill also 'Het watermolenken op het Peelbeexken'. Very nearby you also will find a post mill called 'De Korenbloem'.

'De Middelste Molen': old water mill along the Voorsterbeek or Loenense Molenbeek. The mill already started in the year of 1622 producing paper and still is a small, but working paper factory. It is the only authentic paper mill in the Netherlands.

Ruitersmolen, watermill nearby Beekbergen, dating back to the year of 1606.

Gelderland (Achterhoek), 's Heerenberg - Kasteel Huis Bergh. Castle Huis Bergh is dating back to the13th century.

Limburg, Eijsden - Kasteel Eijsden/Castle Eijsden. The 17th century renaissance style castle is one of the top 100 buildings in the Netherlands.

Overijssel (Twente) , Delden: Twickeler Vaart with the Noordmolen (a watermill), nearby Twickel Castle.

Oranjepark: hoarfrost on the trees.

Waterfall of Loenen, one of the highest of the Netherlands. This waterfall in the so called ‘Vrijenbergspreng’ has a fall of 10 metres (in two steps). As a matter of fact there is a second waterfall downstream with four steps and about 15 metres high.

Wenum - watermill: built in or even before the year 1313 it was first a grain mill. In the 18th century the mill was used as a copper mill. In 1917 the stone building was built and the mill used again as a flourmill

Apeldoorn: 'Man met Twee Hoeden' / 'Man With Two Hats'. This monument marks the 55th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands and serves as a lasting reminder of the role of Canadian soldiers in securing that freedom. The statue was unveiled in the year 2000 by Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet, who lives in Apeldoorn. The monument symbolizes the historic bonds between Canada and the Netherlands. It is a mysterious figure, which seems to be waving both hands with a hat in each one.

‘Paleis Het Loo’ (Palace Het Loo) was built in 1686 by Stadtholder William III and used for almost 300 years as a (summer) palace by members of the Dutch Royal family. Queen Wilhelmina lived here till the year of 1972. After a huge restoration palace and gardens are back in their original state. Since the year of 1984 ‘Paleis Het Loo’ is a national museum and open for public.
