The whole area of Vermilion Lakes is beautiful. This quick shot was taken on 12 May 2012, on the way home from a wonderful day of searching for bears with friends, Cathy and Terry. Just south of the TransCanada Highway, the Vermilion Lakes are a series of three shallow lakes surrounded by marshland—a rich oasis for wildlife. The Vermilion Lakes drive provides classic views of Banff's signature peak, Mount Rundle (not seen in this image).

Thanks to Flickr friends, Ron and Trish and their wonderful invitation to go with them as far as Field, British Columbia, on August 1st, I had the chance to see Mt. Rundle, as well as other amazing, spectacular places like the Takakkaw Falls, Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake. Just love the razor sharp appearance of this mountain near Banff. "Mount Rundle is perhaps the most recognized mountain in the Canadian Rockies and has probably been on more calendars than any other. The viewpoint from which most photographs are taken is five kilometres to the west with the Vermilion Lakes in the foreground. Mount Rundle is really a small mountain range, stretching southeast for some twelve kilometres from the town of Banff to White Man Gap above the town of Canmore. There are seven distinct high points along the way, the third peak southeast of Banff being the highest. EEOR is the unofficial name of the southeastern most peak that rises above Whiteman's Gap."
