Is this a Pink?

30 May 2016 191
Yay, finally a fix for the uploading problem this morning! Posting my daily three right before 1:00 p.m., after a few hours of waiting. This photo was taken on 22 May 2016, when my daughter and I spent a great day together, as a slightly early treat for my birthday : ) Always my favourite way to spend a day, when we go out together with our cameras! We weren't quite sure what we would be doing, as it depended on how my daughter was feeling - so much pain, while waiting for surgery. We did know for sure that we were going straight to the Saskatoon Farm for a delicious meal, though. We took a look inside two of their greenhouses, full of colourful flowers, including the one in this photo. Is this flower a Pink? Not a day for walking outside, as it poured with rain the whole day. The whole province has been a tinder box, waiting to go up in flames, so we are very grateful for the rain that's falling. Just a shame that it was on our long weekend for Victoria Day. After the Saskatoon Farm, we went westwards into Okotoks, so that we could visit the little rustic antique place, All through the House. From there, we drove various back roads, looking for any birds that might not be hiding from the cold and rain. I was so happy that we saw a couple of Snipe standing on fence posts, as they make such beautiful photos. We even saw several hawks - more than I usually see when I go for a drive. Thanks so much, Rachel, for a much-enjoyed day and thank you for the (as always) carefuly chosen gifts and cards. Most of all, thank you for spending the day with me!

Nothing but pink

Another photo that I grabbed from my archives yesterday, taken on 18 December 2008. Not the best photo of this pink Carnation - I find them difficult to photograph, especially the ones that are all one colour.

Unnatural nature

The vein pattern on a petal from a blue-dyed Carnation - in case you were wondering what on earth "she's found now", LOL. Just loved the colour and the neat design.

Edged in purple

Resorting to a photo I took just over a month ago - love your flowers and your Tiramisu (Italian dessert), Safeway! We've had two beautiful days with temperatures somewhere around 13C-15C. The snow is melting and it CAN'T be long before flowers start blooming. Spring is a-coming!

Miss Scarlet

Makes me think of burning hot embers of a fire - and that thought is much needed today : ) Was out all morning, walking along the banks of the Bow River, with a strong, bitterly cold wind blowing. No chances for photos today, same as yesterday, so thank goodness for archives (this one is recent), LOL.

Peppermint frills

17 Feb 2009 189
Thanks, Doris - there was some word about this flower that just escaped me. Peppermint is perfect : ) Just a single red and white Carnation in a bunch of pink/salmon ones that I bought from Safeway a week before Christmas. At the time, it felt like a Christmas flower.

I promised colour and warmth : )

Not the sharpest image, but this bunch of beautiful Carnations withered and died before I got round to trying to get better shots, ha. Said I'd post something colourful, after posting the cold, snow-covered mountain peaks yesterday. It's still snowing, but just very lightly this morning. Looks like there are maybe 6-8" of snow on top of my fence - drifts will be much deeper, of course. It's -11C (12F) at the moment (windchill -19C/-2F), with a SNOWFALL WARNING of a further 5-15 cm of snow. Tomorrow, Saturday, a forecast temperature of -16C (3F) tomorrow morning. Next week should be closer to 0C, which will feel really good.

Twirly swirls

Thank you, Safeway : ). I'm using the two words that friend George used recently in a comment on another photo of mine - thanks, George! Twirly Swirls seems to describe this Carnation beautifully, LOL.

Crinkled

A Carnation that I bought about a week before Christmas. There was just one different flower in the small bunch and really that is why I bought them - a lovely white one with red edges.

My candycane flower

It's that time of the year, when I have to resort to buying a very occasional flower from Safeway when I go grocery shopping : ) It's just too cold to go for walks and photograph nature at around -27C! Normally, I never buy Carnations, but I loved the colour, and patterns in this one, reminding me of a yummy, minty candycane! "The carnation, scientifically known as Dianthus caryophyllus, is an historically rich and meaningful flower choice. With its scientific name dianthus roughly translating to "flower of love" or "flower of the gods", depending on the source, this flower is one that has been revered for centuries. One of the world's oldest cultivated flowers, the carnation is appreciated for its ruffled appearance, clove-like scent, and extended blooming period." Frilly pink

I got the chance to bring home three pretty Carnations yesterday, so this pink one was a different kind of flower for me to try and photograph. I say "try" because I found it a difficult flower to photograph. I found it a "messy" kind of bloom, with an untidy arrangement of petals, LOL! Whichever way I tried to photograph it, it always looked out of balance and not very pleasing. This is the best of the lot, which doesn't say an awful lot. Oh, well, the colour is beautiful : )

Felt like a change from birds, so am posting a recent photo of flowers that I bought at Safeway! More white flowers for you, MAMA Z!
