The joy of colour

The Snowfall Warning for yesterday came true and we now have a few more inches of fresh snow. I had my volunteer shift yesterday, so had no choice but to go out. I also had to call in at a Delivery Service branch to sort out what to do about a computer I had ordered. The last notice I had received gave the estimated date of delivery as 16 December, so I gave them a call to check. I was told there was no sign of my tracking number and that it probably meant that the box was still south of the Canada/US border. The next day was the High River Christmas Bird Count (half an hour's drive south of Calgary) and I felt pretty confident that my computer wouldn't be arriving. Of course, when I got home in the evening, there was the attempted delivery notice. They don't make more than one attempt and so I was left wondering how on earth I was going to get the heavy, bulky box from my vehicle to the house. There is so much snow piled up around my car that there was no possible way I'd be able to do this. However, it was a choice between letting the young girl carry it out to my car and then having to let it stay there, or having the box returned to Dell! So, into the car it had to go - and then the nice young girl offered to drive to my place after she finished work, just so that she could carry it from my car to my front door. I was SOOO grateful and my stress level went way down. Gave her $30 and I hope she enjoys spending it : ) Now the box can sit safely in my computer room till next year, when the dreaded process of transferring all the data begins, ha. And so ends my boring little story, lol!
This photo was taken at the Reader Rock Garden on 26 July 2013. Though the sun is shining today, there is so much snow everywhere, so much white, that some bright colour is really welcome. You run the risk of getting stuck if you stop somewhere, so it will have to be a day at home. I still have the last of my overseas Christmas cards and letters to get done - though I will then have to go out to mail them. I don't think I've ever been this late before.

I had such an enjoyable day today (26 July 2013). I met my youngest daughter to go with two other members of the photography group that she leads, to spend a bit of time at the Reader Rock Garden. After about an hour of wandering and taking photos, including of this beautiful blue Delphinium, we went and had lunch in the restaurant there. We had a table reserved, which was a very good thing, as it soon became completely full. After a tasty lunch, the other two people had to leave, and my daughter and I went over to the Erlton/Roxboro Natural Area and St. Mary's Cemetery. Still quite a few wildflowers in bloom, including a number of my favourite Thistles (even though they are "weeds") - Musk/Nodding Thistles. No rain today, which felt wonderful!

My back garden is a total disaster, but one thing that does grow in it is a small cluster of Delphiniums. I just liked the way the petals glisten, and the mixture of colours on a single petal.

Wasn't too sure whether to post this photo. It was taken back on 11th July, but I thought it was perhaps not really sharp enough. However, I just LOVE this shade of blue and the patches of purply pink on the petals! Just one small flower on the stem of flowers. Oh, and this plant actually grows in my garden, which is a disaster area.
