Highbush Cranberry

27 Mar 2008 182
This Highbush Cranberry (Viburnum opulus) was flowering in June in Fish Creek Park, at Shannon Terrace. "European explorers mixed the berries with fish eggs, then dried the mixture and preserved it in moose stomachs to provide a source of Vitamin C and protein when food was scarce." From Plants of Alberta by France Royer and Richard Dickinson.

Viburnum leaf

Loved the vivid colour of this Viburnum leaf in North Glenmore Park two days ago. Hopefully, THIS year I won't miss fall - it passes so quickly here that often all the leaves have fallen before I get out there with my camera.
