Aspen Bolete mushroom

I'm not sure if this mushroom is the same as the one with the much larger cap that I posted the other day. If it is the same, then it is a Leccinum sp 'Scaber Stalk', growing in Aspen woodland - thanks, Doug, for the ID : ) They really were rather fine specimens - and a joy to behold : )
What a colour

This is the gill pattern of the purple mushrooms I posted yesterday. If I happen to be with someone who pulls a mushroom for ID purposes, then I will photograph the underside with no guilt, LOL. Sometimes, when walking through the forest, I'll come across a mushroom that has either been knocked over or pulled by someone and so take a photo or two. The colour of this mushroom was amazing. Thanks to Doug (dougwaylett) and Ron (Ron Wolf) for the ID and extra information : )
In mushroom paradise

Mushroom paradise - that's exactly where I was yesterday : ) A handful of us did a repeat botanizing trip to a wonderful, forested area (152-acre private property) south of the city, west of Millarville. The property owner, Rod Handfield, accompanied us, wanting to learn as much as possible about what lived and grew on his land. We appreciated so much the chance to explore his forest again and this time, we had had enough rain recently, that the fungi had started appearing. Well, to put it mildly, I really was in mushroom paradise, finding some myself, but also oohing an ahhing at all the amazing ones that I was shown - thanks so much, Doug and David!! This tiny one was a joy to behold, growing amongst the bright green mosses!

Ha, I just had to photograph this Dandelion stem that had curled so beautifully into three coils. I would imagine that the flower head had been chewed off by some wild animal on Keith Logan's land, about 2 miles south of Water Valley. Can't say I've ever noticed this happen before. Photographed on June 17th.
Have to go on a three-hour walk this morning and then have my volunteer shift this afternoon, so I'm posting really early today.
A splash of orange

Totally unoriginal and uninspiring, LOL, but Halloween just wouldn't seem right without a real pumpkin and that gorgeous splash of brilliant orange. Actually, I took this photo two years ago, I see!
Beauty beneath

I always love mushroom gills - to me, the underneath of a cap can be even more beautiful than the top. I was rather intrigued by the pattern on the stalk. Seen on 3rd August last year, on a hike at Marston Creek, Kananaskis.

I thought this mushroom was a little bit different, with its patterned stalk and brown-edged cap. Found at Bebo Grove, Fish Creek Park, on 28th August.
In the light

I'm posting early, as there is a chance that I will be out this evening. Today is another cold, snowy day and my car is going to need clearing of snow before I can go anywhere. The roads are supposed to be even worse than yesterday (though I stayed home). There were around 200 traffic accidents yesterday in the city. Unfortunately, I don't have the option of staying home, safe and warm, today. Drive safely, everyone!
I liked the pattern on the stalk of this mushroom, found in Bragg Creek Provincial Park or West Bragg Creek Natural Area on 20th August.
Just got home from a volunteer shift and found that there was not a single comment on this photo or the one below it. I uploaded my pics early today, maybe 7 or 8 hours ago, so this is really, really weird. Never happened before. I did just lighten and replace this mushroom image and the mushroom one below, thinking they were rather dark, but I would have thought that one of my Flickr friends would have commented " Hey, this is much too dark" or something similar, LOL. Anyone else having something similar happening?
Groovy

This was one of the many wonderful species of fungus that we discovered while botanizing the 152-acre property of Rod Handfield, south of Calgary, west of Millarville. Just loved the grooves and the light : )

This mushroom was taken on 20th July at the Handfield's acreage, west of Millarville (southwest of Calgary).
Yesterday's beauty

Yesterday, I was out of the house with two friends from 7:00 a.m. till 10:15 p.m., botanizing the Snakes Head Natural Area, north west of Calgary. There were hardly any fungi there, but luckily friend David spotted this beauty right near the beginning of our walk : ) This happily reduced my craving to see mushrooms all day, LOL. Then, on the way home, we walked and botanized a nature trail on the property of Dave and Bernie Amonson, near Water Valley. We had planned on calling in at a restaurant somewhere for supper, but were kindly invited to have barbecued hotdogs by Dave and Bernie instead. A very enjoyable day - it rained first thing and then on the way home, but we were very lucky that the rain kept away while we were walking.

We were so lucky to come across a number of these beautiful Boletes on our walk this morning. They were growing in Aspen woodland at Ranchlands natural Area. Judging by the weather we are having at this very moment, maybe there will be other fungi growing in various locations, too. It has just started pouring with rain - and I have a walk to go on in about an hour and a half to see a possibly endangered wild Iris. Oh, and my daughter has just e-mailed me to warn me that there is a Tornado Watch in place for the Calgary area!
Yeah - a mushroom

This mushroom, growing fairly high up on a tree, was pointed out to me on a walk at Carburn Park this morning. The stalk looked reasonably "fresh" to me (though I know nothing when it comes to fungi) but surely it must be an old mushroom? New or old or very old, I was thrilled to finally see a mushroom after suffering mushroom withdrawal symptoms for many months. I like the pattern on the stalk.
