All in a row

I was out a few days ago, driving round looking for some beautiful, snow-covered trees. It is rare for us to get a day when the snow actually stays on the tree branches for a full day. Doug, you should recognize this view : )

Mating Tiger Beetles

I was thrilled to be shown two of these beautiful Claybank Tiger Beetles this afternoon. They occur in the same area as the snake Hibernaculum, where I took the photo of a snake that I have just uploaded. I thought these beetles were much larger than they are - only very small and pretty well impossible to see against the cliff surface. They seem to fly away as soon as anyone starts approaching them : ). Thank you so much, D, for finding these for me to see. Now I know what to look for.

Slithering snake

A friend took me for a walk this afternoon to one of his favourite areas of the park. We climbed a clay bank looking for Tiger Beetles and came across about eight snakes. Both kinds were seen; the Wandering Garter Snake and the Red-sided Garter Snake. This one is a Red-sided - quite beautiful, really. I can tell you that a steep, crumbling cliff is not the ideal place to walk for someone who has a fear of snakes and of heights, LOL! It is good, though, to know that there seems to be a healthy number of these reptiles already. Thanks, D, for showing these to me : )

Claybank Tiger Beetle

Went with two friends this afternoon to look for these colourful, attractive Tiger Beetles. They are only tiny and not easily noticed. If you didn't know what you were looking for, I don't think you'd find them. This photo is greatly magnified.

Similar to a previous photo I posted here but this time I didn't catch the bright red tongue. This was the first snake I ever photographed.

Managed to get this photo despite my fear of snakes!
