Rudbeckia

These gorgeous Rudbeckia blooms were still going strong back on 6th October. Feels good to look at this beauty in between finally being able to get my H1N1 'Flu shot today and backing up some of my photo files yet again on to a replacement external hard drive - I sure hope that THIS machine works OK! Wasn't going to get this 'Flu shot, but my oldest daughter is very high risk, so really wanted me to get it.
End of the season

A withered Rudbeckia in the Calgary Zoo garden, looking beautiful to my eyes : )
Colours of fall

A few of these Rudbeckia triloba flowers were growing in the garden close to the house on a huge acreage south of the city. Also called Brown-Eyed Susans, these plants belong to the Aster family (Asteraceae). It wasn't until I downloaded my images to my computer that I realized the colours look like those of fall.

Rudbeckias are one of my favourite garden flowers to photograph, and I look forward to seeing them each year in the gardens at the Calgary Zoo. This photo was from my archives, taken on 8 September 2011.

Creating my own sunshine - for me and for you : )

After endless days of dreariness - can't remember when we last saw the sun, apart from when it came out for five or ten minutes late yesterday - I decided last night that I needed colour, bright colour! Of course, I wake up this morning to a bright, sunny day out there : ) (Later afternoon - well it was nice while it lasted, ha). Photographed at the Calgary Zoo on 25 September 2012.
Almost as good as a warm, sunny day

I love photographing these Rudbeckia flowers when I go to the Calgary Zoo in the summer. Such a vibrant yellow and the flower centres are always interesting. Much as it's nice to dream about those warmer, sunny days, we can't complain at all about our temperatures right now. It's -7C (18F) this morning and is suppposed to soar to a balmy -3C (27F) this afternoon. The next few days are forecast to be hovering around 0C for highs. Sure beats -25C or -30C!
Thanksgiving colours

Wanted some fall colours for today and I don't have a pumpkin of any size to use, so here is a Rudbeckia (?) to wish all my Canadian friends a very Happy Thanksgiving weekend. Just a few more weeks now and it will be Christmas - and then we'll be a lot closer to spring once again : ) Ha.
Glowing

Rudbeckias are one of my favourite garden flowers - so vibrant and glowing. Should have held on to this image for when our temperatures plunge in a few weeks' time : ) This joyful mass of colour was photographed at the Calgary Zoo back on August 23rd.
"Rudbeckia is a plant genus of 23 species in the family Asteraceae. The species are commonly called coneflowers and black-eyed-susans; all are native to North America and many species are cultivated in gardens for their showy yellow or gold flower heads."

My brother's house in England is having to be auctioned on September 15th. I would SO appreciate your good luck vibes! This has been a real roller-coaster ride, especially with the buyer who backed out after a few months - the Sold sign was already in the front garden! Houses just aren't selling in England, but I am really, really hoping that someone comes forward either at the auction or before. It would be such an enormous relief to have this off my shoulders : )
Summer colours

Just a splash of summer colour from the gardens at the Calgary Zoo, back on August 26th.
Welcoming the sun with open arms

A three hour + winter walk in a local park this morning made me long for a reminder of summer : ) So, here is a Rudbeckia flower that was growing at the Calgary Zoo early in October. The temperature today was only -12C/10F (supposed to be -28C/-18F on Sunday!) and in fact it was really beautiful out. Not sure where all the birds were - perhaps huddled in tree cavities or deep in amongst the branches. I've barely been out walking the last six weeks or so, so I knew I would be walking in agony, but just had to force myself to do it : ) We were lucky enough to see a Townsend's Solitaire - if I don't have a photo of this species on Flickr, I might just post one of the very distant photos I took today). Also, just before we got back to the parking lot, we stood and watched two Ravens way up high, either harassing or just playing with a Rough-legged Hawk. This went on for a long time : ) I was thrilled to bits when we came across a Spruce tree that someone had decorated with coloured baubles and a few other Christmas ornaments. Haven't downloaded them yet, but a couple of shots might be OK to post - other than the fact that there was just no way to take photos of them without getting my own reflection in them, LOL.

Digging a little way into my archives to find some bright colour to add in amongst my blue, grey and white winter photos : ) These Rudbeckias were growing in the gardens at the Calgary Zoo back in August last year.
A little worse for wear

A little droopy, I suspect, but still pretty. Is this a Rudbeckia? It was growing at the Reader Rock Garden towards the end of September.

I can never resist photographing a Rudebeckia when I happen to come across one, LOL. I just liked the green behind the brilliant yellow petals. Seen at Bowness Park, growing in one of the planters.

Well, 100,089 to be exact, LOL! Through My Stats, I see that there have been 763,398 views altogether on my photos, photostream and sets. Way over three-quarters of a million total views sounds a little ridiculous, I must say, LOL! Of course, I would still be at zero if it wasn't for each and every one of you who has so kindly taken the time to stop by and take a look at my images. I appreciate every single visit, and your comments really keep me going! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Feeling the heat

Wish I could remember what these large yellow flowers are called : ). The Calgary Zoo has a whole flowerbed full of these beautiful blooms, each flower seeming to be at a different angle. I was going to say that this is rather how I feel today, after a long, hot, afternoon walk - but then I remembered you, Rebecca, dealing with even hotter temperatures! Had to smile when I saw your comment below, LOL. Thanks for the ID, Linda - Rudbeckia!
