Hosta flowers

|
These beautiful Hosta flowers were in bloom on 21 July 2017, when friend, Dorothy, invited me over for a BBQ supper and the chance to maybe see and take photos of the beautiful Ruby-throated Hummingbird that had been visiting their colourful garden. Hosta plants are better known for their beautiful overlapping leaves, rather than their flowers. I did try to get an OK photo of the Hummingbird when a group of us was there for a BBQ just a matter of days earlier, but I didn't get a single photo that was fit to post. This tiny bird had been extra busy at their feeders full of sugar-water, getting ready for her long migration journey across the Gulf of Mexico. Her nonstop journey would be more than 1,030 km.
Thanks so much, Dorothy and Stephen, for such a lovely time! The meal was delicious, and it was so much fun to get a better look at your tiny Hummingbird. Like other years, you must miss her when she leaves! Hopefully, she will return next summer.

She had been extra busy at their feeders full of sugar-water, getting ready for her long migration journey across the Gulf of Mexico. Her nonstop journey is more than 1,030 km. I'll add a photo of her when she was at this Red Birds in a Tree plant, in a comment box below. I had never heard of this plant before, but it does look like a little flock of red (well, pink) birds perched on branches.
"Red birds in a tree is a hummingbird’s delight. The hovering birds are attracted to the luscious cherry-red tubular flowers that sit atop dark green, ovate, toothed leaves. Just look at the flower and you will see how it earned its descriptive name.
A relative of the penstemon, Scrophularia macrantha flowers continuously from spring through fall. The plant does not need much TLC and will re-bloom without deadheading. Vibrant color will illuminate your garden all summer long. Once established, it requires little water and is suitable for xeriscaping. The plant originates from the mountain slopes of New Mexico and adapts quite well to anywhere in your landscape that offers full sun to part shade. Red Birds in a Tree likes to entwine with other plants for support and will grow best in the back of a border." From link below.

Sunflower beauty

On 27 May 2015, I had a volunteer shift and afterwards, as the sun was shining, I called in at the Reader Rock Garden, where I found this beautiful Sunflower. There was rain in the forecast so I thought I'd better make the most of the blue sky while I could. Alberta is bone dry everywhere, with wildfires especially further north. So, much as I really dislike the rain, we desperately need it.
From the Garden, I drove through the adjoining Union Cemetery and then another nearby cemetery, and then called in at a wetland in SW Calgary.

A splash of colour

When I hovered over this photo late last night, no date showed for it. This morning, at the unearthly (definitely for me!) hour of 5:15 am, the date does show. Can't remember where this shot was taken, but probably Reader Rock Garden. The folder for that date is on my external hard drive and, as I'm in a hurry this morning, I'll have to check the location later. (Just checked my archives and, yes, it was Reader Rock Garden).
A splash of summery colour isn't really needed at the moment, as we are having ridiculously mild weather for mid-winter. Yesterday afternoon, the temperature got up to 15C - yes, that's PLUS 15C. Crazy weather! However, my photostream could do with a change of colour.
Pink and purple beauty

This was one of the Roses that was in a bouquet of beautiful, mixed Roses that my youngest daughter gave me for my birthday, just over a week ago.
A real beauty

Overslept this morning, thanks to having to take a muscle relaxant tablet last night. Actually, I only took half a tablet, just to see what it would do, so I can't say I look forward to having to take a whole one for the next 30 days. These are part of the treatment for the inflammation of my rotator cuffs, especially in the right shoulder, along with an anti-inflammatory ointment, heat, etc.. Finally had my appointment with my doctor yesterday, and she said she doesn't think there are tears in the rotator cuffs. Have to set up physiotherapy (which normally I avoid, as it's expensive and I don't like having to go, ha). However, when something interferes with my photography - not to mention everything else I need to do - then I have no choice but to go : )
The sun is shining brightly this morning and it's 18°C. There's a chance of thundershowers this afternoon.
Still waiting for Flickr staff to fix the "add to groups" problem that has been going on since last night. They are aware of this new issue. Yay, looks like it's fixed!
Added for colour

Oops, the main flower is not as "sharp" as I had thought late last night, but too late to find a different shot, as I have to dash out early this morning. Just needed a bit of colour after posting a brown Moth, a brown star ornament, a brown Deer and two Black Bears : ) These are Lavender (Lavendula) flowers that were growing in a pot outside a motel that friends, Cathy and Terry, and I, stayed at on 14 May 2014, in the Rocky Mountains.
