Happy Easter weekend!

I've had this photo tucked away in one of my "Maybe post to Flickr" folders for a long time. When I looked in a couple of these folders yesterday, I was amazed at how many old photos I just never posted. A check of My Archives assured me that I had never posted this shot - so here it is, three years late : ) Makes a change from Owls, too, as I have quite a few of those to post in the upcoming days/weeks. Taken on 6 April 2010. "Narcissus is a genus of mainly hardy, mostly spring-flowering, bulbous perennials in the Amaryllis family, subfamily Amaryllidoideae. Various common names including daffodil, narcissus, and jonquil are used to describe all or some of the genus. They are native to meadows and woods in Europe, North Africa and West Asia, with a center of distribution in the Western Mediterranean." From Wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissus_ (plant) Apologies to all my local friends - I finally washed my absolutely filthy vehicle this afternoon. Without fail when I do this, it either rains or snows. Just checked the weather for the coming week and guess what, snow is in the forecast, lol.

Sensational

This is one of the many Orchids growing in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo at the moment. I wasn't sure how my new little Panasonic DMC-FZ18 would handle a white flower, as today was my first time out somewhere to test it. I went to the Calgary Zoo for the afternoon. I wanted to test it out and compare similar photos taken recently with my old, half-working Canon S3 IS and very old Olympus C750 UZ. I found the Panasonic DMC-FZ18 a delightful camera to use!! It is light-weight, comfy and if I can use it, then anyone could. I kept it on Intelligent Auto to test out the camera and it seems to have worked reasonably well in various light conditions. I did use flash for some of my indoor shots.

Christmas cactus

I didn't realize how pretty a Christmas Cactus flower is if you turn it upside down : )

A mixture of vibrant colours from a yellow Sunflower and an orange and purple one, bought at Safeway - all natural colours.

Happy 4th July!

My most recent purchase from Safeway! Thought I'd use it to wish all my Flickr friends in the US a very happy and safe 4th of July!

Two of these beautiful flowers were open in the teeny pond inside the Butterfly House at the Calgary Zoo about a week ago.

My treat to myself

26 May 2007 164
Oops... forgot I had started uploading a few photos. Got caught up in getting a few things ready for a bus trip tomorrow down to near the US border. We (a group of Naturalists) are going just for the day, which makes it a long day with the journey taking about three hours each way! My memory cards are all deleted, my batteries all charged. Now have to see to the less important things, such as food, etc., LOL! The weather is supposed to be beautiful, and I am SO much hoping to be able to get some nice photos. Oh, I treated myself to six roses today - normally, I would never buy roses for myself, but a change from Tulips was much needed :) And it was my birthday - and I'm worth it, LOL! Shows how long it has been since I was near a rose - I totally forgot about the thorns till too late!

Another close-up from the most recent bunch of flowers I bought at Safeway. For once, the petals are much more in focus!
