Hungry Pine Siskin

09 Feb 2014 1 2 318
It's early on Sunday morning, 9 February 2014, -28C (windchill -37C) ,and I got up early to go on a bird walk with friends. It's beginning to feel less appealing by the minute - but, two good birds were spotted yesterday and the temptation is overwhelming. Wish I'd gone yesterday after all, though it was only a degree or two warmer : ) A group of us visited Keith Logan's property on 21 August 2013, on a botanizing trip. This little Pine Siskin was at one of the feeders and, though I'm not a huge fan of feeder shots, I rarely get to see and photograph Siskins.

If I just close my eyes, maybe she'll go away

This is one of the three (?) beautiful cats belonging to Keith Logan and his wife, Sandy, seen when a group of us spent the day at their home and property on 21 August 2013. They live NW of Cochrane on a 35-acre parcel of land. After enjoying seeing a lot of Keith's stunning photography and incredible woodwork, and enjoying coffee and the most delicious cheese scones and spicy scones straight out of the oven, we then walked on their land to record all flora and fauna seen. We all agree - if you sit in one of Keith's wooden chairs, you'll see that no chair could ever be more comfortable - they are simply amazing! Thanks to Keith and his wife for such an enjoyable day! www.keithlogan.com/Keith_Logan/Photography/Photography.html www.keithlogan.com/Keith_Logan/Woodworking/Woodworking.html

Cow Parsnip seed

If I remember correctly, this Cow Parsnip seed may have been about one third of an inch long. Thought it had an interesting surface texture. Photographed on Keith Logan's property on June 17th.

My little green alien

Ha, I just had to photograph this Dandelion stem that had curled so beautifully into three coils. I would imagine that the flower head had been chewed off by some wild animal on Keith Logan's land, about 2 miles south of Water Valley. Can't say I've ever noticed this happen before. Photographed on June 17th. Have to go on a three-hour walk this morning and then have my volunteer shift this afternoon, so I'm posting really early today.
