Lacewing / Chrysopidae sp.

A tiny Lacewing insect species, seen during a day of botanizing at Patrick Brennan's ranch on 25th July. There are four or so species of Lacewings in Alberta, but I'm not sure which particular one this is. Lacewings are predators, eating mostly aphids. John Acorn, in his book "Bugs of Alberta", describes them as "beautiful, smelly and mean". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysopidae

Barn Swallows

Normally, I never get to see Barn Swallows, other than a very occasional one in fast flight. So, I was glad to see these two briefly land on the outdoor light of a building at Angela Cumberland and Patrick Brennan's ranch, north west of the city. Left hand one is a young one, but the right one looks more like an adult? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_Swallow
