Yesterday's colour

24 Oct 2011 192
It was such beautiful weather yesterday and the few remaining golden colours simply glowed. This tree was a little more orange-yellow than most of our trees in the fall. Taken yesterday morning on a walk from the Boat Launch to the Lafarge area, along the west side of the Bow River, in Fish Creek Park.

Hoary Cress

24 Jun 2010 216
This was a new plant for us, that I happened to notice when a few of us were on a walk in Fish Creek Park, south of Highway 22X a couple of days ago. I stared and stared at it, trying to think what it was, but it just somehow looked different. Always great to see something new, though I know most of you aren't interested in wildflowers : ) "Hoary Cress (Cardaria spp.) comes under "Restricted, Noxious, and Nuisance Weeds In Alberta".... It is a perennial that spreads by seed and creeping roots. Three species of Hoary cress are found in Alberta. Each is named according to the distinct shape of the fruiting structure (pod); heart-podded, lens-podded and globe-podded hoary cress." www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$department/deptdocs.nsf/All/faq8777 ?

Early Cinquefoil

30 Apr 2010 159
I rarely take photos of whole plants, prefering to focus on a macro image of a single flower. Here, though, is quite a pretty cluster of Early Cinquefoil, growing in the Lafarge area south of Highway 22X. If you are not familiar with this species, keep your eyes open for a splash of bright yellow when you are out on a walk. This native, spring wildflower is a member of the Rose family.
