Go away, winter!

Water droplets on Chrysanthemum petals. We had an amazing hoar frost yesterday and the day before, but the sky was so dull and so little light, which made taking photographs difficult to impossible. Today, the weather is even worse, and it is even more treacherous underfoot. Snowing quite heavily at the moment. Just needed a bit of colour - yet again, LOL.

Up close

This is the tiny pistil and a few stamens of a Christmas Cactus flower : ) Seen though my little macro lens, a Raynox DCR-250. Still have a long way to go before I (hopefully) succeed in getting greater clarity with my supermacros, but it is fun to see things so much closer. Needed a "lazy" day (i.e. a day at home) today, ready for another long Bird Count day tomorrow.

A prickly glow

This was a tiny growth (maybe half an inch across) that had burst out of the side of a grafted cactus. My Raynox DCR-250 macro lens let me see the textured surface and sharp spines - and I love the vibrant colour, so much needed on this overcast day (-18C, windchill -26C).
