Western Anemone seedheads

03 Sep 2009 156
Saw these Western Anemone seedheads on 25th July 2009, on the Pocaterra Cirque trail, Kananaskis. I love it when some of the seeds have blown away, revealing the central pattern of the seedhead - quite attractive. "The flowers are short lived, and are soon replaced by a feathery white seed head. Attached to each seed is a long feathery strand. When still on the plant, it almost appears as a blond wig. This has spawned a local nickname: 'hippie on a stick'. From MountainNature.com.

Just before the rain

This photo was taken on 25th July, on a hike along the Pocaterra Cirque trail, Kananaskis. Within a few minutes, the weather changed, the sun vanished from the valley and it poured with rain just after I took this photo. A beautiful place for a hike!

This very small Puffball was seen on our Pocaterra Cirque hike on 25th July. Puffball sp., Lycoperdon sp. I love the texture of its surface.
