Orange Jelly Fungus

A photo taken on 15th August 2009 at the Snakes Head Natural Area on a botanizing day trip. I always enjoy coming across this orange Jelly Fungus that adds a welcome splash of bright colour deep in the forest.
Yesterday's beauty

Yesterday, I was out of the house with two friends from 7:00 a.m. till 10:15 p.m., botanizing the Snakes Head Natural Area, north west of Calgary. There were hardly any fungi there, but luckily friend David spotted this beauty right near the beginning of our walk : ) This happily reduced my craving to see mushrooms all day, LOL. Then, on the way home, we walked and botanized a nature trail on the property of Dave and Bernie Amonson, near Water Valley. We had planned on calling in at a restaurant somewhere for supper, but were kindly invited to have barbecued hotdogs by Dave and Bernie instead. A very enjoyable day - it rained first thing and then on the way home, but we were very lucky that the rain kept away while we were walking.
Bunchberry

Usually, I see Bunchberry covering the forest floor, but these plants were growing up a broken tree stump and I liked the way they added their little spots of bright colour against the darkness of the rotting wood. Seen at the Snakes Head Natural Area two days ago, when we were there to record all the flora and fauna we could find.
Jelly fungus

I don't know if this is "Orange Jelly" - to my extremely ignorant eye when it comes to Fungi, Lichen and Slime Mold ID, it looks rounder and smoother than other "Orange Jelly" specimens I've found. Also, to me, this looks more yellow than orange, so I'll simply call it a yellow jelly fungus. Seen in the Snakes Head Natural Area, north west of Calgary, on a botanizing trip three days ago. Thanks, Doug, for the useful information you posted below! Much appreciated!
