I couldn't find any of the four owls in the Burnsmead family when I called in at the park the day before yesterday. However, on 23rd June, I did see them and they were so accessible. Just a delight to see the two youngsters. This is the older owlet - just loved her/his glassy eyes and beautiful wing feather patterns and colours. Thank goodness for 18x zoom : )

It was a real treat to come across a few stems of this rare, wild orchid when we botanized someone's property two days ago, south west of the city, near Millarville. It has been sighted at about four locations in Calgary, but I don't know if the plant still appears in these places. This photo is a much enlarged view of just one of the several very small flowers that grow on each stem.

I LOVE Poppies and loved the hairy and spotted detail on the bud covering of this one. Such a brilliant colour, which I think looks beautiful against the greenery. Seen in a friend's garden recently - if you see this one, Dorothy and Stephen, thank you! Posting early today, as I am going out shortly to see if I can find the Great Gray Owl again as well as a family of Mountain Bluebirds. Was out all morning, walking at Edworthy Park (including the Douglas Fir Trail).
