Roses AND diamonds

23 Jun 2009 257
The beauty of nature! Amazing how a photo can turn a couple of little raindrops into a pair of sparkling diamonds : ) There are a lot of wild Roses open now, giving a beautiful colour to the bushes. The flowers are 5-8 cm across. This is the floral emblem of Alberta.

Also known as Richardson's Geranium. Likes open aspen and spruce forests, June-July. The leaves of this plant are edible and you can add them to soups and salads.

Life is a series of ups and downs

I'm not sure what this little beetle is, but I kind of liked seeing him in this side view. Seen with friends four days ago, on a walk along the upper part of Fish Creek Park, in the Evergreen Bluffs area.

Bursting out

I LOVE Poppies and loved the hairy and spotted detail on the bud covering of this one. Such a brilliant colour, which I think looks beautiful against the greenery. Seen in a friend's garden recently - if you see this one, Dorothy and Stephen, thank you! Posting early today, as I am going out shortly to see if I can find the Great Gray Owl again as well as a family of Mountain Bluebirds. Was out all morning, walking at Edworthy Park (including the Douglas Fir Trail).
