Another shot from May 19th, of the little Great Horned Owlet that fell out of its nesting tree. S/he is seen here, sitting on a fallen log, with the late afternoon sun on its feathers. S/he survived many days on the ground, with both parents keeping guard and feeding it, and now has been back up in a different tree after someone from an organization (Fish and Wildlife??) came with a ladder to place it up out of harm's way. S/he seems to be doing OK - haven't been down to see the owls for quite a few days. Apparently, there can be around 30 people in the area at once, which must be a little stressful for the owl family.
