I must admit it was a nice feeling to see my image of a Prairie Crocus (taken at 12 Mile Coulee on 5th May 2008) in the most recent AlbertaViews magazine. I was expecting it to be used in just a very small size, so got quite a shock when I saw it at full-page size, especially as I don't have large file sizes. They did such a lovely job of this and I really appreciate it. Though I've had various images used in a number of magazines and quite a few books, it always feels good that something taken by oneself is actually being used and people are learning from it. My thanks to AlbertaViews magazine! This photo accompanied Jackie Flanagan's Editorial on the opposite page. One of the things she said was : "Sometimes the sheer stupidity of my province drives me to the west coast to be with more kindred spirits - old friends from my UBC days. We were talking recently about experiences we'd like to be remembered by. When it came my turn, I said, "If you're out walking in the spring in a field still crusted with patches of dirty snow, and you see a fuzzy purple crocus poking out through the dead grass, remember me". My Vancouver friends looked at me blankly. And I felt very, very sad" I know I shouldn't take this passage out of context. However, when one has put up with several long months of winter, the sight of a Prairie Crocus is WONDERFUL, LOL!
