Can't remember now what plant this was - would it be Sowthistle? Seen on the east side of the Bow River at Mallard Point, Fish Creek Park, on 20 September 2012. The name doesn't matter, though - the sunny brightness of the colour is all that is needed on this dreary, overcast morning : ) My plan had been to make my first drive ever (in 34 years of living in Calgary!) south of the city today. Of course, I have been driven that way plenty of times when we carpool for birding trips, but I have never done it by myself. I never notice where we are going, when I'm in somone else's car. If the sun comes out later, I'll think about still doing it, if my courage doesn't fail me, lol. Later, this evening: yet another Flickr glitch, apparently. I was wondering why none of my Contacts were uploading photos for the last 7-8 hours. They simply aren't showing up on my home page. Same thing happening for other people, too. Ice crystals covered everything on Saturday morning - fences, bushes, grasses. It created a glorious winter wonderfland, especially down near the river. We walked along the Bow River's eastern edge from Burnsmead to the Highway 22X bridge - by the time we retraced our steps, the frost had sadly more or less disappeared. It was unbelievably pretty while it lasted : ) The temperature that morning was -7C to +6C - very pleasant for walking.

I get a strange feeling when I look at this image, feeling as though I'm looking out through a small-paned window where snow has built up a little around each pane. In reality, this is a chain link fence on a walk last weekend. Everything was briefly covered in beautiful ice crystals, including this fence.
