LOL, can you imagine how long it would take to go through all these petals to find out the answer?! This is my Gerbera potted plant from Home Depot (whispered, ha, ha). The big mystery, though, is: "Who is HE?"
Spring, where are you?

These are beautiful Tulips in a small pot. I love the mixture of yellow and red/orange and the little red hearts that are (unseen) on the inside of the petals.

There were a lot of these Icelandic (?) Poppies growing at the Reader Rock Garden when I called in recently. Also yellow ones and white ones. I love Poppies and wish I had a garden full of them : )

These are very small, delicate flowers and I believe they close up in the morning cooler temperatures. When I photographed this one, it was in the afternoon and the flowers had opened. This was the first time I had ever seen these dainty little flowers. Not quite sure of the correct name for them, so will have to find out.
Happy Earth Day!

Hope you all spent a few moments, at very least, thinking about our planet today. We have an amazing world to live in, for the most part, and need to do all we can to keep it that way. I spent this morning on a walk, seeing and photographing a few of the first early spring plants, including Prairie Crocuses, thinking how great it was to be enjoying spring at last. After a volunteer shift this afternoon, I had to drive home in a dreadful snow storm, LOL! The white stuff continues to fall heavily ....

Well, the poor Prairie Crocuses looked rather battered and droopy this morning, after the awful snow storm we had two days ago! They were all closed up, with their little fur coats - solar heating, Crocus style!
"This furry little perennial is actually not a crocus, which is in the Lily family; it's really an anemone, in the Buttercup family."
Golden, for ANOTHER snowy day

What a day we've had today, especially this afternoon! Was out birding in South Glenmore Park all morning - we saw something like 24 species in and by the parking lot, even before we had started our walk! Lovely to see quite a few Tundra and Trumpeter Swans on the Reservoir (that is now half melted), Common Loons, Grebes, Ring-necked Ducks, etc., etc.. Then the snow started falling around lunch time. After a quick lunch, we went over to 12 Mile Coulee in the north west part of the city. I knew this would be quite a brutal walk/hike, as it is steeply uphill and downhill. However, I SO wanted to see the rare Townsendia hookeri wildflowers! Part of the walk stayed clear, but then the snow, rain and small hail started : ) Too tired and painful (LOL) to deal with the photos I took today - will have to wait till another day. Oh, I did see my first snake of the year (plus a second one's slithering tail) - a young, male Wandering Garter Snake, all coiled up because it was cold. And, Doug, if you read this, there were some beautiful Lichens growing on the rocks up there.
A touch of light

I placed these on top of my printer, bent down and hoped I'd be able to catch some blue sky as a background : ) I rather liked the lighting effect when I did this, unexpected though it was!
I can barely keep my eyes open this evening - very, very short of sleep, plus I was out from 7:45 a.m. till 3:45 p.m., searching for different bird species out in the mountains. The sun was so bright and this, plus being so tired, is making my eyes keep closing. Had a lovely day trip, though, along the Sibbald Flats area and out past Barrier Lake. We saw some Trumpeter Swans on a couple of sloughs (ponds), and Townsend Solitaires, which we rarely get to see. Lots of other species, too, of course. Also saw my very first Mountain Bluebirds of this year. After a long, severe winter, it feels so wonderful to see that very first splash of brilliant blue.

A whole row of these gorgeous, tall Sunflowers was growing in the wonderful homestead garden owned by Jim Coutts. We were lucky enough to have the chance to visit this place, south of the city near Nanton, last August. So many amazing plants - my favourites are always the Poppies.

I've resorted to another photo of my potted Tulip from Safeway - yes, the flowers that have the little red hearts on the insides of the petals. Sorry I'm not commenting much at the moment - have felt ghastly for at least a week: (
