Barn at Folk Tree Lodge

Yesterday, a botanizing outing had been planned to an acreage west of Calgary, near the hamlet of Bragg Creek. The forecast included rain, which started just as I left home. Hoping that it would have stopped by the time I had driven out there, I decided to still go. Only two others arrived and, after a while, it became obvious that the rain was not going to let up, so back home I went. Not before I was told to drive down the driveway to look at a couple of old barns that had been renovated. The present owners of the property have only lived there for four months. This morning, it's raining again. We desperately needed rain, but if only it could rain just at night.

Splash of colour

This is about all I photographed yesterday afternoon, when I drove an area I'd never driven before - all in the slim hope that I might just see a Northern Hawk Owl that had been seen there. This bird is at the top of my Wish List : ) My concentration went on the unfamiliar road, not to mention the fast-moving vehicles that always seemed to appear out of nowhere each time I wanted to slow down and look for birds : ) I think these bushes are Willows of some kind - they added such gorgeous colour to the snowy landscape here and there. Oh, and needless to say, I never did find the Owl. This area is in the Foothills of the Rockies, just before Bragg Creek, west of Calgary. I made no turn-offs on this road, to make sure I didn't get myself lost - and, oh, how I hate that feeling of not knowing where I am.

Undulating clouds

Not a very inspiring image, lol, but I wanted a record of some rather unusual looking clouds that we saw when a few of us went botanizing the Connop Estates area of The Nature Conservancy, near Bragg Creek on September 23rd. You really need a panorama of a wider expanse of the sky, which I never think about doing when I'm out somewhere. Luckily, this didn't turn into rain.

Can you believe it?

Not only have I been so priviledged to see an adult Great Gray Owl recently (actually about four in total in the last few weeks), and been able to get some photos, I was also so fortunate to see THIS today! It's a baby Great Gray Owl : ) A few of us went out west of the city to someone's property to hopefully see at least one of the owls that live there. We were treated to one adult and this gorgeous, fluffy baby, which was very high up in a tree and quite curious about us - as you can see by these amazing eyes : ) What a cutie!
