Beauty in miniature

21 Aug 2008 137
I would never have even noticed this tiny plant and flower, Bicknell's Geranium, if I had been walking by myself! I seem to have been seeing a lot of teeny plants recently, giving me plenty of challenges to get any kind of photo of them. So, this is another tiny flower photo that has been cropped and enlarged in order to see the beauty of its tiny centre.

Bicknell's Geranium

This is just a very small wildflower, and was seen growing at the Mountainview Sports and Handicapped Centre NW of the city, in July last year. "Bicknell's geraniums cover the ground within a year after intense fires, thus preventing soil erosion and holding onto nutrients that might otherwise leach out of the ecosystem. In effect, the plant is nature's bandage that helps the landscape begin the healing process after a major disturbance kills the forest." From www.dnr.state.mn.us/volunteer/mayjun08/mp.html
