An alpine Saxifrage

19 Jul 2008 113
Photographed this small Saxifrage at the side of the Ptarmigan Cirque Trail (in Kananaskis) last weekend. I'm not sure what species of Saxifrage it is - can anyone help me with the correct ID? I love all the exquisite detail of each individual flower! Just wondering if it is Leather-leaved Saxifrage (Leptarrhena pyrifolia). On the other hand, MountainNature.com says about Western Saxifrage: "The flowers form in several tight clusters of small, white flowers. The lack of leaves along the stem, and its fuzzy nature, distinguishes it from the leather-leaved saxifrage." Note later: apparently, it is a Diamond-leaved Saxifrage, also called Snowball Saxifrage (Saxifrage rhomboides) .
