Ross's Turaco

Yes, a Tropical bird seen at the Calgary Zoo - actually, I've just looked at my photo again and it suddenly went through my mind that it looks almost as if it has a Red Powder Puff flower on top of its head. These really are strange looking birds, but their colours are brilliant.

Ross's Turaco

This brilliantly coloured bird was sitting in a tree inside the African tropical building at the Calgary Zoo. Each time I visit, I seem to be lucky with having one kind or another of tropical bird perched nearby, either in a small tree or sitting on the railing. "Ross's Turaco (Musophaga rossae) This is the second largest Turaco, and measures between 51 and 54 cm, weight between 390 and 444 grams. Impressive red erectile crest, yellow lores, and a yellow beak which stretches posteriorly to form a forehead shield. Inhabits woodlands from sea level to 2500 m, feeding off available fruits and arthropods." From www.toucanjungle.com/page/page/4707223.htm
