Hidden treasure

01 Aug 2008 125
Well, I'm back - finally, my new computer is set up and working, though I keep coming across things that I can no longer do, such as renaming an image. I've been doing this for years, but now I get a message saying that if I change a file name extension, the file may become unusable! What??? Anyway, this plant is a Nodding Thistle, also known as a Musk Thistle. This plant had been pulled, as they will spread and become invasive if left in the ground. So, I had the chance to tip it upside down or in this case, hold it so that I could see underneath - and when I did, I was surprised to find this little Ladybug.

Baby's-breath

This is an introduced ornamental plant that has escaped from cultivation and into natural areas. Added to flowers such as Roses when made into bouquets. This photo shows what those teeny white flowers actually look like individually.

Yellow Bedstraw

This plant was introduced from Europe. I've only seen it in one place (possibly two) in this city. This was photographed at the Erlton/Roxborough Natural Area. For some strange reason, the Additional Information mistakenly states that this image was taken today. Actually, I think this is because there was no date set on my camera when I took the photo.

Red Longhorn Beetle on Goldenrod

We saw a few of these bright red and black beetles at the Erlton/Roxborough Natural Area this morning. Not sure if it is a red Turnip Beetle. An amazing area for wildflowers!
