Northern Grass-of-Parnassus

Northern Grass-of-Parnassus is one of my favourite wildflowers. Only one small flower grows on each stem - these three stems just happened to have bent over close to each other.

This is such a pretty wildflower. My favourite thing about it is the way the 7-15 gland-tipped divisions of the greenish-yellow stamens look as if they have been meticulously made from glass. There is a similar flower called Small Grass-of-Parnassus, but it only has 5-7 of these gland-tipped divisions. Photographed on a walk at Griffith Woods, off Highway 8 in the city. Details are much better when seen in large size, if you are interested.

Saw this small wildflower on a walk in Weaselhead yesterday morning. "The genus is named after Mount Parnassus, a mountain in central Greece, which in mythology was sacred to Apollo."
