Brightening the Badlands

23 Dec 2008 166
Came across this beautifully kept red "barn" style home yesterday, when I was out doing the Bird Count in the Drumheller area. Drumheller is the incredible area east of Calgary (approximate two-hour-drive) where the fossils of countless dinosaurs have been discovered. The scenery is quite unique, but I wasn't able to get any shots yesterday that looked out over this "carved" valley. Another name given to this whole area is the "Badlands." Temperature for our walks was -30C (-22F)!

Remembering winter

Took this winter scene on 30th January, when I was on a day bus trip to Lake Louise in the Rocky Mountains. The frozen lake is off to the left of the mountains.

Monumental

The sky was blue on Wednesday, at least for part of the day, when I went by bus with friends to Lake Louise in Banff National Park, to see the annual display of Ice Sculptures. Most of my scenery photos were taken through a dirty window on a bumpy bus, so I was surprised to see that a lot did turn out sharp enough. Love this towering range!

Dwarfed

This is a view at Lake Louise, in Banff National Park, in the Rocky Mountains. It is a two-hour ride west of Calgary. The weather was beautiful for a lot of the day, but the sky did start to cloud over later. The trees were covered in snow and everywhere was a winter wonderland.
