Saw several of these Llamas when three of us did the Cochrane Wildlife Reserve Christmas Bird Count the day before yesterday, 28 December 2012. Our long day consisted of driving along all the backroads east of Highway 22/Cowboy Trail, roughly across from the Water Valley area. We also call in at a number of farms to ask the owners what birds they have been getting recently. Couldn't get any closer - Llamas spit! Off to the Nanton Bird Count for the whole of today, south of Calgary.

I am so thankful that I got this photo through glass and not out in the wild, ha! So far, I've never come across a Cougar while out on a walk or hike. Would prefer to come across a bear than one of these big cats, anyday. Taken at the Calgary Zoo on 8 September 2012, a day of very harsh sunlight - most of my photos from that day did not come out. Thinking of the victims of 9/11 and their families today. A day people will never forget.

Can never remember if this is a Marmot, Groundhog or Prairie Dog at the Calgary Zoo. There is no sign (that I could see) saying what these roly-poly animals are. (Later: this is a Black-tailed Prairie Dog).
