Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to anyone who celebrates! If you are on the roads this evening, drive safely and do remember to keep an eye open for any little goblins, witches and so on, who might be crossing the road. This 'Halloween' photo was taken at the Saskatoon Farm on 23 September 2018.
My daughter finally had a day free for us to get together on 23 September 2018. She suggested we could go to the Saskatoon Farm, a place we both love, for breakfast and a wander round the grounds with our cameras. After that, we drove west to Granary Road. Though the Active Learning Park had closed for the fall and winter, it was open for the day on the day we went. It covers a large area and has all sorts of educational areas, including a mushroom area and a farm animal area. We had fun trying to photograph a group of funny Alpacas there.
I had been hoping to get over to Granary Road all summer, but it just didn't happen. This is a fairly new market garden, SW of the city, with an Active Learning Park, too. Before this, the area was simply a huge, empty field, except for the row of five old, red granaries/sheds. I was very disappointed some time ago, when I first saw what was being planned for that particular area. Most of all, I and many other photographers, were horrified when we discovered that the row of old granaries had been removed from the landscape. Some of you may remember my photos of these granaries, which I called "The Famous Five". They have been replaced by five new, red sheds which, I have to say, look better than I had originally thought.
There was thick fog in places on this day, but it didn't seem to affect photographing objects that were close. It was still an overcast, dreary kind of day, though. My favourite kind of day, spending time with my daughter.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN to everyone who celebrates this occasion! Keep a careful eye open for the Trick-or-Treaters who may be out on the streets this evening. Excited kids can easily forget to check for traffic before crossing the street.
This was just a plain brown butterfly (on the underside, anyway), but it was perched on one of the large Chinese lanterns that was part of the amazing Illuminasia exhibit throughout the Calgary Zoo. Taken inside the ENMAX Conservatory on 29 September 2015.
That day, my alarm clock was set for 6:30 am so that I could go on a birding walk with friends. Unfortunately, I didn't read the e-mail carefully enough, so hadn't seen that the meeting place was not where I thought. Of course, no one else showed up where I was, so I took myself off to the Calgary Zoo instead. I had planned on going there after the walk, anyway.
The butterfly exhibit only goes from April to September/October each year. The tropical butterflies and plants are beautiful during these months, thanks to all the hard work of staff and volunteers. I think this has to be my favourite part of the Zoo.

I forgot I had bought this chocolate Halloween ghost a short while ago, simply to use for a Halloween image on Flickr. Better late than never.
A timely sight

On a day trip south of the city in August, a truck passed us with this unique design on it. Quite attractively done, despite the subject matter : ). Thought I'd post it today, seeing as Halloween is almost here.

Happy Halloween, to everyone who celebrates this day! These two cupcakes have been in my fridge for about three days, I think, as I thought I was going to need to take a better photo of them (i.e. without using flash). I never eat cupcakes normally, so I'm not sure just what is going to happen to these - maybe I'll take a bite and see : ) I only bought them so that I could use them for a Halloween photo, ha.
Have a safe day and evening, everyone! Please keep your eyes open for little Draculas, princesses and maybe even a few mini Lady Gagas, lol, and drive extra cautiously!

Totally unoriginal and uninspiring, LOL, but Halloween just wouldn't seem right without a real pumpkin and that gorgeous splash of brilliant orange. Actually, I took this photo two years ago, I see!

Hope those of you who do celebrate Halloween (in one form or another) have a really fun and SAFE weekend. Here in Calgary, we couldn't ask for more perfect weather for all the tiny witches and goblins (and Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber look-alikes, ha) to invade the neighbourhoods : ) Keep an eye open if you are driving tomorrow evening - some of these little guys can't see too well through their masks and costumes. Stay safe!
New neighbours moved in today - their dog hasn't stopped barking through the adjoining wall and it's driving me nuts!!! There is only so long that I can stand having my music or TV blaring to drown the sound .... : )

To those of you who celebrate Halloween, have a fun, SAFE time tomorrow!
I took this photo a year ago, thinking that maybe by the time the next Halloween rolled around, I might not have a photo of a real pumpkin to post, LOL. Sure enough, my recent Turban Squash was the closest I've come to seeing a real pumpkin. Saw this "imitation" on the doorstep of someone's house while I was walking from Stanley Park all the way to the Glenmore Dam last October.

I always love pumpkin season, both at Thanksgiving and at Halloween. Because my kids are all grown, I don't celebrate this event and don't buy a huge pumpkin, but couldn't resist buying one of those miniature ones from Safeway. Happy Halloween, everyone! Stay SAFE, especially all those young Trick-or-Treaters!

Happy Halloween tomorrow, everyone! Have a safe and fun time, if you do celebrate. Here in this city, many children now go to various Community Centres or shopping malls to celebrate, rather than going from door to door. Much safer - not to mention much wamer if the weather is cold. We had another snowfall last night - of course, it's Halloween!!

For those of you who "celebrate" Halloween, I wish you a Happy Halloween. It has become a huge holiday in Canada, with little ghosts and goblins, witches, Superman, fairies, pumpkins and the rest, everywhere! I think fewer and fewer children go from house to house hoping for candy, as there are now special Halloween events held in shopping malls, Community Centres and the like. This, by the way, is a photo taken by my son and family of their front garden last year. My son always did have a great imagination and is very artistic and creative. Even one of his hobbies comes in useful for this - woodwork.
