Hypostyle, Karnak, Egypt, 10 April 1967

This is an old photo, printed from a slide and now being scanned from that print. It was taken back in 1967, when we lived in Doha, Qatar for about six months. When we left there, to return to England before going to live in Holland for a few months, we were able to stop off en route at a few places for between 2 and 5 days, including Beirut (4 days), Jerusalem (4 days), Cairo (2 days), along the River Nile to Luxor (5 days), Athens (4 days), Rome (2 days) and Paris (2 days). Lol, by the time we finally reached England, we felt that we never ever wanted to see ruins and columns again, anywhere. Our time in Luxor and at the Valley of the Kings was just magical, and with far fewer tourists back then than nowadays. As I wrote in a reply to Art below, that's ME standing there - for years, I thought it was a local Egyptian in my photo, but this evening, when I had zoomed in to remove endless tiny white flecks, I realized who it was, lol. Oops- I guess it wasn't me who took this photo, then! dlib.etc.ucla.edu/projects/Karnak/feature/HypostyleHall

This is an old photo, printed from a slide and now being scanned from that print - so not exactly the best quality, ha. Egypt has been in my mind recently, of course, and I thought I would add this photo to my Middle East set. I haven't watched any News the last few days, so I'm not sure how things have progressed/changed in the last little while.

Queen Hatshepsut's Temple

"The Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut is located beneath the cliffs at Deir el Bahari on the west bank of the Nile near the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. Designed by the architect Senemut, the mortuary temple is dedicated to the sun god Amon-Ra." From Wikipedia. This is a scan of a print from a slide, taken in 1967, when we were lucky enough to be able to stop off at several places en route from Qatar to England. Location on my map is approximate. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortuary_Temple_of_Hatshepsut

A scan of another print from a colour slide, taken way back in 1967, when we were able to spend just a few days in Egypt on our way from Doha, Qatar, back to England before going to live in Holland for a few months.

May peace and harmony come to all

When I look at this photo, taken about 40 years ago, I just feel peace. After living in the Middle East for six and a half years, many years ago, the whole region holds a huge place in my heart. It saddens me greatly to see TV footage of what is happening there at the moment, though at the same time, there is hope that positive changes can happen. May peace and harmony and all things good come to those who are living there in such troubled times. video.nationalgeographic.com/video/player/places/countrie...
