India

Yes, a very out-of-place photo to be seen on my photostream, LOL, tucked in between the flowers and the birds. I was browsing a few photos on my hard drive, deleting quite a few that I had once thought looked OK, and happened to come across this very, very old one that I had scanned ages ago. Decided to add it to my Middle and Far East Set. I know I have the definite location somewhere, but don't want to spend the time searching now - I should be getting on with the rest of my overseas Christmas letters! However, I believe I took this at The Fort (?) in Agra, India, back in 1967. We spent four days in that country en route from a short leave in England out to Borneo, where we were going to live..

I discovered that by unplugging my scanner and turning it back on, it seems to be working OK again, thank goodness. So, I scanned a very old photo that I took in September 1967, when we visited India for four days en route from England to Borneo. We were on our way to live in Borneo, ending up there for three and a half years. Our oldest child, Steven, was born there. While in India, we took a train down to Agra, to visit the Taj Mahal, a most beautiful place.

A closer view of the mosaic detail on the very beautiful Taj Mahal, taken way, way back in September 1967! We were able to spend four days in India en route from England to Borneo (where we lived for three and a half years.) Scan from an old print.
Peahen

I think one can use the name "Peacock" for both male and female or else call this a "Peahen". I hadn't realized there is an irridescent sheen on the female's feathers. Very beautiful in her own way, despite being far less colourful than the male. I remember seeing one in the wild many, many years ago while travelling on a train in India.
