Not sure if this is called a Great Eggfly butterfly or a Common Eggfly. or maybe they are both the same. Yes, the scientific name is the same.
Depending on the angle from which you see this butterfly, there is a bright blue edging to the white spots. Also called the Blue Moon. Quite a beautiful tropical butterfly, seen in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo on 1st Sptember 2011. Wingspan is about 7–8½ cm (2.8"-3.3").
"Great Eggflies are found in Madagascar in the west, through to South and Southeast Asia, South Pacific islands (French Polynesia, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu) and occurs in parts of Australia, Japan and New Zealand. The Great Eggfly is a fairly common butterfly found in lightly wooded country, deciduous forests, thick and moist scrub and the greener parts of human habitation."

I always smile at the common name of this butterfly. When you happen to catch this butterfly at a certain angle that catches the light, the four large spots are brilliant blue - you can just seen a bit of the colour on one of the spots here. Taken at the Calgary Zoo on 17th May 2011.

As always, I am not 100% sure of the ID for a tropical butterfly at the Calgary Zoo Conservatory, but try to be as accurate as possible. I would really appreciate any correction or confirmation if anyone has time to take a look - thanks! Wish I had the time to connect the undersides with all the topsides of my butterfly images - it's quite fascinating to see which belongs to which butterfly.
