Yummy Jelly Babies

01 Mar 2014 284
Sometimes, you just have to play with your food, lol. I love these Jelly Babies and was lucky enough that my youngest daughter gave me a packet of them for Christmas. Grabbed this photo, as it caught my eye when I was looking for something with warm colours to post today. Today, it's -26C (windchill -37C), tonight will be -32C (windchill -42C) and tomorrow morning will be -29C (windchill -38C). Am I going out this weekend? NO! We are under a Wind Chill Warning for the whole weekend, as a very cold Arctic air mass and moderate winds are giving extreme wind chill values. These -40C wind chills are being experienced by much of Alberta this weekend. At these extreme wind chill values, frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone - my kids, my friends both near and far, some of whom are on Flickr and some not. To those on Flickr, thanks so much for continuing to check out my images - I really appreciate it! Hope you all have a very happy day today, whether celebrating with someone special or not. I almost didn't have a Valentine's Day image to post, so was kind of forced into buying these chocolate-covered strawberries that caught my eye when I went grocery shopping a couple of days ago. Seemed such a waste to not eat my photographic prop afterwards, so I made myself do it. And they were delicious : ) My thoughts are with all those who are having the most awful weather at the moment, whether it be flooding, strong winds, tremendous snowfalls and ice storms, all causing such great damage. Mother Nature sure has a powerful will of her own! www.flickr.com/photos/annkelliott/12524017114

Strawberry and Rhubarb tart

01 Oct 2013 1 1 403
Spent a most enjoyable few hours at the Saskatoon Farm on Saturday, 28 September 2013, with my youngest daughter and two members of the photography group that she leads. It's a fascinating place to visit, with all sorts of things to photograph, a gift shop, a food shop, and a restaurant that offers delicious food! I love their quiche. So nice to just wander at leisure with our cameras and have lunch together. This was the very first time that I had driven there, though I had been with various friends maybe three or so times before. So, that's one more place I can now drive to, which feels good. Bought a box of four of these tasty tarts. www.saskatoonfarm.com

Want versus need

27 Sep 2012 223
Feeling sorry for myself that I never see anything to photograph, I caught sight of this yummy pastry when I went grocery shopping and knew I would finally be able to use my camera! And if you believe THAT, you'll believe anything, lol!!! It was simply a case of giving into temptation. By the way, that's a saucer it's sitting on, so it was only a few mouthfuls.

Happy Thanksgiving to my kids and all my Canadian…

Hope everyone is fortunate enough to have a good meal this weekend, turkey or otherwise. When I was in Safeway a couple of days ago, this delicious (and thankfully tiny!) tart/torte caught my eye - for photographic reasons, of course, ha. And if you believe that, then perhaps you'll believe anything : ) I'm still shaking my head in disbelieve that it actually stayed in my fridge overnight, until I had managed to take a few photos of it. That is real self-discipline - to some of us, lol! "Hold your clicks", Flickrites....! Hiccups!

Yummy ice cream

10 Aug 2011 321
Just what is needed after a day of hiking! This was just a "single" - so glad I didn't ask for a "double"! Don't you just love someone who asks "Would anyone like to stop at ? and get an ice cream?"? This day, our stop was at the Boulton Creek Trading Post. Of course, I then felt desperately thirsty for the whole journey back to Calgary, ha! Enjoyed on August 7th, after hiking the Sarrail Falls trail and the Mt. Everest trail at Kananaskis Lakes, Kananaskis.

The best kind of snowflake

04 Dec 2009 197
Seemed an appropriate day to post a photo of this yummy Rosette (Scandinavian). We are in the middle of a bad winter snow storm today, being advised not to go out unless absolutely necessary. My car is plugged in and I don't plan on going anywhere tomorrow! "Rosettes are a thin, cookie-like deep-fried pastry of Scandinavian origin. They are traditionally made during Christmas time. Rosettes are made using intricately designed irons. The iron is heated to a very high temperature in oil, dipped into the batter, then re-immersed in the hot oil to create a crisp shell around the metal. The iron is immediately removed and the rosette is separated from the iron. Usually, the edges of the rosette are dipped into frosting or sugar. Rosette recipes are popular in the United States among families with Scandinavian ancestry." From Wikipedia.

Naughty girl!

Just couldn't resist buying one when I dashed out to do some food shopping a short while ago. I definitely do NOT need things like this, but I find that in the winter months I am far more likely to give in to temptation. And yes, I've already eaten it. My excuse this time was that when I bought one before, my photos were blurrier than I thought : )

Chocolate Checker Mousse Cake

30 Apr 2009 165
LOL, the reason for buying this much-too-tempting dessert was simply that I was feeling desperate to photograph something different! Too many flowers, too many owls, too many ...... The hardest part about photographing something like this delicious Chocolate Checker Mousse Cake is having to download my photos and check that at least one of the photos has come out sharp enough - and THEN I can eat it, ha, ha! I must point out, though, that it is/was only about 3" diameter!! Hundreds of calories, I'm sure, but when it comes to getting a photo, sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do! Thanks, Safeway, yet again : )

Tiramisu - Happy Easter, everyone!

10 Apr 2009 159
This was the most delious Italian dessert - and chocolate is perfect for around Easter : ) I must admit that the reason I bought this was that I was desperate for something different to photograph, LOL. This was the prettiest thing I could find that was TINY (i.e. about 3" across). Don't need the calories, period, but most definitely don't need the calories from some regular sized dessert : ) I do have to admit one thing, though - I did buy a 3" cheese cake (like one in a photo I posted ages ago), just so that I wouldn't be tempted to eat this Tiramisu before I photographed it and then wait and check that one of the photos was sharp enough. Oh, by the way, this was bought from Safeway!! "Tiramisu has become one of the most popular desserts served in restaurants of all types, not just Italian restaurants. The recipe has been adapted into cakes, puddings, and other varieties of dessert. Tiramisu is made by soaking savoiardi biscuits in espresso with the optional addition of liquor and sugar, and layering them with a mixture of mascarpone cheese and zabaglione, a light custard made with Marsala wine or a liqueur. Cocoa powder is sprinkled on top of the dessert, which is refrigerated before being served." From Wikipedia.

Waiting ...

14 Feb 2009 188
Well, that was torture, LOL! Had to wait till I'd downloaded my photos to my computer to check that at least one photo came out OK, before I could eat this tiny cheese cake (bought from Safeway)! And now it's all gone : ) It was a little less than 3" diameter (placed on a saucer), so not TOO many calories - yeah, right! Have a Happy Valentine's Day everyone and a super weekend!

I didn't need it - but I wanted it

Mmmm, Rum and Raisin, and Cherry!! This was a treat to myself after a 7 km hike on the Fullerton Loop, off Elbow Falls Trail. We called in at Bragg Creek, a hamlet situated just before the Elbow Falls Trail takes one into the beginning of the mountains. Unfortunately, there is a great little candy store there! So much for the calories I burned on the hike, LOL.
