Yay, spring IS here! As you can see by the blue sky, today has been a glorious day, only about 13C but it felt warmer than that to me. A perfect temperature for walking. After watching a couple of far off Tundra Swans and several distant Canvasbacks on Glenmore Reservoir this morning, I took a few shots of these beautiful catkins from a Laurel-leaved Willow (North Glenmore Park). Hard to tell from this photo, but the stems are brilliant, glowing red. Very pretty.

One of "my" Great Horned Owlets growing up at such a fast pace and now daring to sit on the outer edge of the nesting tree! Ooops, better not use "my" again, which I have been using to differentiate photos of the owl family that I have been following for the last couple of years or so, from photos of other owls, taken in other parts of this park, in other parks, and out of the city. I also use "my" to make sure I remember which owl is which. Ridiculously, someone known to me in this city is spreading (more) malicious gossip, accusing me of "trying to keep the owls to myself". The highly amusing thing is that if that was my intention - which it most definitely is not! - I hardly think I would be posting all my owl photos to Flickr, where millions of people around the world (including locally) can share this owl family, LOL!!!! I also don't think I would be showing in person these owls to various friends and other people whom I don't know, e-mailing some of the photos to friends, most likely boring people to death with all my chat about this beautiful little family and asking if they have been down there recently. Now, does that sound as if I'm "trying to keep these owls to myself and not wanting other people to know about them and see them"??? I will just add that I have carefully not posted a photo of the actual complete nesting tree on the Internet (not everyone has good intentions towards wildlife, sadly). Also, on the rare occasion, there are certain birds/wildlife that I share with just a handful of trusted friends. If a particular bird is very secretive and would be extremely distressed if a lot of people suddenly descended into its space, then I will put the well-being of that bird /wildlife as a priority. This particular family of owls happens to be very used to people, as well as long-term road construction, including immediately below their nesting tree!

We were treated to these little 1-2-day-old Canada Goose goslings this morning. I never fail to marvel at how much they can do when they have only been in this world 24-48 hours!!
