Freeze-dried

I couldn't resist taking a quick shot when I noticed this line of washing in the yard at one of the farms we called in at, during the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count around the town of High River, on 17 December 2013. It's so rare to see washing hanging outside to dry, but it brought back all sorts of old memories. It looked so "Alberta" to me - cowboys, ranches and WINTER.

My friends and I had just a very quick stop at the Bomber Command Museum of Canada on Highway #2 at Nanton, Alberta, on our way south from Calgary, heading down to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, US. The Nanton Lancaster Society made the decision to change the name of the museum from the Nanton Lancaster Museum to the Bomber Command Museum of Canada, in 2010.
This photo is of one of the planes that is on display outside. It's a very sobering thought that there are 10,659 names on the Museum's Memorial Wall.
Their website is a great place for those interested in information about War and Aviation:

Prickly pair

Had to dig a little way into my archives, back to 29th August, to find this pair of mushrooms that were growing along the Fullerton Loop trail in Kananaskis (off Highway 66, Elbow Falls Trail).
Step into winter - a shock to the system!

I have just got home after an afternoon driving out to Forgetmenot Pond along Highway 66, Kananaskis. This was a view on the way, and proves that winter HAS arrived! LOL, I expected beautiful snowy peaks, but forgot that everywhere else would be covered with a blanket of snow. The road itself was pretty good, with just patches of snow and ice on it. Fall colours were on their last legs, but I managed to catch a little taste of them here. I was happy to come across a large family of Mountain Sheep that were licking the salt from the road surface. After climbing the rocky outcrop at the side of the road, they then all turned to wait for the youngest one to find a way that s/he could manage to climb up. And now I'm back home in the warmth, with a huge mug of coffee : )
Japanese Anemone

I'd never heard of Japanese Anemones till a month or two ago, when I saw them in the Dorothy Harvie Gardens at the Calgary Zoo. On my last visit, a few were still blooming. Such a pale pink with a vibrant centre. Happy Thanksgiving again to everyone!
