A splash of colour

Something like 15 years ago, someone gave me a single, tiny Purple Geranium plant. A big mistake, as this has spread over the years and now needs to be pulled. The small flowers are quite pretty, but the seedpods look such a mess. I know they should be dead-headed, but that would be too much bending, so it never gets done. Makes a welcome splash of colour, though.
Orange Star / Ornithogalum dubium

Macro photo of a potted Orange Star plant that I bought from my grocery store recently and that I finally got round to photographing on 12 April 2013. Such a gorgeous, vibrant colour - a welcome sight, especially as the sun that was shining just a short while ago now seems to have disappeared. If it stays overcast, maybe I will actually get on with my Taxes, which I started on late last night. Only a few days left before the deadline.
"The Dubium flower, hailing from the Hyacinthaceae family of plants, blooms by a variety of names; The Sun Star, Snake flower, Orange Chincherinchee, Orange Star of Bethlehem or Star of Africa. Dubium flowers are endemic to the Cape Province of South Africa, meaning they are unique to that geographic region alone."

Jazzy eyes

I believe this little fly is a Deer Fly. They have black and white wings and the most amazing eyes : ) I always think they look as if they are wearing designer sunglasses, lol. This one was busy at work on a Yarrow plant at Maclean Pond, Kananaskis, on August 16th. Love the tiny specks of pollen on its hairy legs!
The innerworks of a Christmas Cactus

Used my little Raynox 250 macro lens to get a closer look at the stamens and pollen of a Christmas Cactus flower. A warm glow, which feels good after walking all day today.
Had a full day of Christmas Bird Count in the Canmore area (near Banff, in the Rocky Mountains) today. It's recommended that a person does 10,000 steps a day - well, I've done 23,377 today, LOL, and it feels like it, too! Feel exhausted, so won't be on Flickr much tonight. Got less than two hours sleep last night and tomorrow morning I have to be up early to go looking for Owls with a friend. Aren't I lucky?? No walking though, just driving.
Lots of room for improvement!

I bought a small macro lens for my little point-and-shoot a few weeks ago (Raynox 250). I've only tried maybe a dozen shots and this is the only one that has even a tiny speck of anything close to sharp, LOL! I find it interesting to see just how close one can get - in this case, to the insides of a Tulip. I can see there must be a real knack to using it, plus an awful lot of practice. One of these days ...
