On an all-day hike along the Gunnery Pass Trail, off Highway 40 (Kananaskis) on Saturday, we saw several of these attractive (most likely Northern) Checkerspot butterflies towards the end of the hike. I don't know which kind of Checkerspot it is - would welcome any ID help : ) Holy smokes - what a slow day at Flickr today!! Later: thanks, Doug, for the info!

Today, I went with three friends to explore 20 (?) acres of beautiful land in Millarville, south of the city, to discover and record some of its birds, animals, insects, fungi and wildflowers. I always find this kind of thing exciting and interesting, and it was wonderful to be invited to see such an incredibly beautiful place. Thank you SO much, Marilyn, for this much-appreciated opportunity! This unidentified caterpillar was one of the things found.
