Can't beat a red barn

Caught the last sunlight of the day on this red barn, during the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count for High River, a town to the south of Calgary. Taken on 18 December 2012. Another cold day here today, and snowing. Temperature this morning is -22C (-8F), windchill -30C (-22F). Tomorrow is forecast for -27C (-17F), windchill -33C (-27F)! Off to see my youngest daughter later this mornining - she's cooking a turkey lunch for me : ) What an absolute treat! NORAD Santa Cams: "Santa Cams are ultra-cool, high-tech, high-speed digital cameras that NORAD pre-positions at many locations around the world. The cameras capture images and videos of Santa and his reindeer as they make their journey around the world." Apparently, he has already left well over 1,335,200,000 gifts (as of 8:30 a.m. Calgary time). www.noradsanta.org/en/track.html HAPPY CHRISTMAS, everyone, and all the very best in the New Year!!

Can't beat a red barn

Passed this little red barn the other day, when I drove a few of the backroads south of the city. That day and the previous one, we had had a beautiful hoar frost, so I just had to go and enjoy it out of the city, despite the fact that the sky was grey and not a glimmer of light anywhere. Was out all this morning on a walk at Griffith Woods. Very few birds to be seen and nothing unusual. I did learn one thing, though - trust your intuition. If a small creek looks just that much too wide for YOU to leap (well, slight exaggeration!) across, then don't do it, LOL! Now I need to go and limp around the local grocery store : ) Thanks for trying, Phil!

A little corner of the prairie

Not sure if this photo is a bit dark. Now that the sun shines into my computer room in the evening, it's kind of hard to tell what my photos look like. Anyway, this was one of the locations that friends and I briefly stopped at yesterday, when we drove out to the Irricana and Bruce Lake area. I thought the tiny pond, cattails and a red barn made for a pretty picture.

Red on white

A bright splash of colour to brighten a rural, winter scene. I liked the black silhouette of the horse against the red. Seen along 85th St. SW, just south of Highway 22X. I love red barns, LOL!
