I finally got out for a walk yesterday morning - I think I've only been out on three walks anywhere in the last three or four weeks - and it felt so good. We walked from Bebo Grove to Shannon Terrace, Fish Creek Park, and back. Temperature started off at -10C and rose to -3C and there was such a cold wind. Mostly cloudy, too, and the light was too low to get any decent photos. So, here's a half-decent one, at most, lol. However, I did like the background colour - came from Red-osier Dogwood, I believe. You can always count on the little Black-capped Chickadees being around, even when there is little or nothing else.
Lowly, but handsome, House Sparrow

Another of my cold House Sparrow images that I took mid-March 2008. He sure looks different from his usual sleek self, all puffed up on a bitterly cold day.
In the cold

Not the greatest photo, but I don't usually get the chance to see Bohemian Waxwings close to. This image was taken on 30th January 2008, when I went with a group of friends to Lake Louise. It was bitterly cold and three very puffed-up Waxwings were in a bush next to the building where we had lunch. My other photos turned out better than this one, but I decided I would add this one after all.
Feasting on berries

A photo taken quite a time ago, when I went to Lake Louise with friends. We stopped for lunch in a place near the lake and three of these very cold, puffed-out Bohemian Waxwings were feeding on berries in a small tree. Normally, these birds are very sleek and stream-lined, but not that day.

Some of my favourite photos taken this afternoon were of little House Sparrows. They flew into a bush near a seed container at the Calgary Zoo. You can put in 25c and get a handful of seed to throw to the ducks on the stream. These little birds were SO puffed up against the cold and almost seemed to be pleading with me to feed them. Guess who didn't have any loose change on her! House Sparrows usually are constantly on the move, but these little guys and gals seemed too cold to flit around all the time.
