Happy Christmas, everyone!

Happy Christmas, everyone! Hope you all have a wonderful day today - for some of you, Christmas Day is already over, but here in Calgary, it's almost 10:30 a.m. on Christmas morning. The temperature is -5C (windchill -8C), and it's supposed to get up to 3C this afternoon. Very mild compared to the brutally cold weather we had earlier this month. For many people, Christmas is a very difficult time, for various reasons. My thoughts are with them and, as always, with those who for one reason or another will spend Christmas alone. To those of you who don't celebrate Christmas, I hope today will be a happy one for you. If you will be on the road, please don't drink and drive! Wishing you all a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and all the very best in the New Year!

Star-flowered Solomon's Seal

This common, native wildflower has such beautiful flowers. It's one of the plants that, every year, I tell myself I am going to try and get some good macro photos of it, but I still haven't got round to doing so. At least this image is sharper than the majority of photos I do take of it. Taken at Griffith Woods on 15 June 2013.

Exquisite

I am in love with these tiny flowers! I had heard the name "Hoya" for many years, but had no idea of the miniature beauty to be found behind that name. A cluster of these tiny, tropical flowers forms a ball shape at the end of a very long vine stem. I think the contrast between the "fleece" star and the shiny, "pearl" centre is totally exquisite. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoya I got soaked almost to the skin on a walk at Votier's Flats, Fish Creek Park, yesterday morning, and came home with just one photo worth keeping (of a Common Raven feeding two young in the nest, built high up on a railway bridge). It's raining again this morning so, even though I got up early for another walk, I changed my mind : ) Hmmm ... Flickr hiccups.
