Common Indian Crow butterfly (Euploea core)

05 Apr 2014 1 281
I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is a Common Indian Crow butterfly (Euploea core). Photographed in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo on 1 September 2011. Yesterday and today have been more like spring - sunshine, blue sky and a few degrees warmer. The snow has been melting quite nicely, which feels so good, after six months of snow and ice on the ground. Maybe spring is here to stay?? This morning, the temperature is -2C (windchill -6C), but it's supposed to get up to 10C this afternoon. Monday and Tuesday are forecast to get up to 14C, followed by slightly cooler days.

White Cinquefoil

I'm not quite sure why I like White Cinquefoil so much. There is something almost old-fashioned about it - and I love "modern". I don't get to see it very often. I find the individual flowers are really pretty. This plant was growing at Edworthy Park, at the Lawrey Gardens end.

Furry, and a little blurry

...but oh, so adorable : ) I'm still picking out the odd image I took of these Red Fox kits that day. Most of my photos came out far too blurry, for some strange reason, but I'm still finding the odd one or two that are just about fit to be posted. I wonder how these little guys are doing now. Maybe they have already dispersed?

From my garden

My tiny back "garden" is a total disaster, with giant ferns pushing their way up through other plants and the lawn. My short length of hedge is growing through and over the fence. Tiny blue/purple geraniums were looking pretty, but soon will be an untidy mass of straggling stems and seedpods. BUT, I have two Peonies and they produce gigantic blossoms out of those tiny buds - and the smell is out of this world! I always find it fascinating to see the occasional splash of pink on the white petals, like raspberry sauce drizzled on vanilla ice-cream : )

Rising from the forest floor

LOL, I keep coming across mushroom photos that never got posted last fall. Maybe I shouldn't post them, as eventually, you will be flooded with new images of fungi - I HOPE : )
