A taste of what's to come

A floral explosion of Alliums seen at Reader Rock Garden on July 28th last year.
Was out with friends on a three-hour walk this morning, in the Sikome and Burnsmead areas of Fish Creek Park. We had 30 species of birds, which was pretty good, and one deer (plus the legs of a second deer found on the path - maybe it was Coyotes that picked the remains clean) and one little Richardson's Ground Squirrel (commonly called Gopher). Best of all was the fact that the sun was shining and the sky was blue.

Already drooping, these Echinacea flowers were two of the few that were still in reasonable shape at the Reader Rock Garden a few days ago - most of them were on their last legs. One of my favourite garden flowers.

Beautiful, bright flowers growing in a garden belonging to an elderly gentleman who has an outdoor cactus garden.
Glowing in the sun

Not sure that I really needed the extra "heat" that feels like it's coming from this image, on yet another very hot day, but I loved the way the sunlight on these gorgeous flowers made them glow. Seen in a friend's garden that is just ablaze with these wonderfully bright blooms.
Happy Earth Day!

Hope you all spent a few moments, at very least, thinking about our planet today. We have an amazing world to live in, for the most part, and need to do all we can to keep it that way. I spent this morning on a walk, seeing and photographing a few of the first early spring plants, including Prairie Crocuses, thinking how great it was to be enjoying spring at last. After a volunteer shift this afternoon, I had to drive home in a dreadful snow storm, LOL! The white stuff continues to fall heavily ....
