Peaceful

This Trumpeter Swan at the Calgary Zoo was resting quietly while its mate slowly floated nearby. I always think they look so beautiful when they tuck their head into those soft feathers. I see Trumpeter Swans in the wild, too, but always from a distance.

Like between ripped paper

When I first looked at this photo, I almost felt as if I was viewing Frank Lake and the distant Rocky Mountains through a frame of ripped paper : ) We had a few hours south of the city today, searching sloughs (ponds) and Frank Lake for birds. Frank Lake is a well-known location and very popular with birders. I was very happy to see a Western Meadowlark, even though it was perched on a most unphotogenic, distant road sign, LOL. Took quite a few photos, but mainly landscapes - and most not really worth keeping. We are SO lucky to have this amazing scenery within easy reach!! Quite warm today, up to around 21C, but cooling off greatly tomorrow, with snow in the forecast sometime over the next few days.

As winter lingers ...

A pretty common photographic scene, LOL. However, there's just something pleasing (to me, anyway) about the colour of the old leaves and grasses in winter against the sunlight and shadows of the snow. Couldn't believe it - we had a bit more snow last night : )

Last one in is a ... chicken?

Decided to post this photo after all : ) Taken on a sunny, mid-February morning on a walk along the east side of the Bow River in SE Calgary. Actually, perhaps these Canada Geese have a little more "sense" than those humans who take part in a "Polar Plunge"!
